IF theory 3 is correct, see the geneology from Moses, son of Nehemiah, son of Henry French & Elizabeth Collins back to Jacob French in the  1500's here-

Jacobs parents were Thomas and Alice ; Thomas's father is Stephen French.

I believe it's Moses' brother Richard's family being talked about at  http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?richard,married::french::992.html

Mystery: A lot of little things I find intrigue me.

In 1832's Black Hawk war, there are 2 FRENCH veterans- William and Richard. They were from Clinton County, 2nd north of Perry County.

On the Illinois State Archives, Perry county list of Civil war veterans there is a FRENCH from perryville Mo. listed.

A related branch of the French family:
A 25/25  DNA match proves this is a related family; the common ancestor probably was in the Colonies in the late 1600's. Their earliest known relative is Samuel French b. +-1733 to 1748, maybe earlier..
