JAMES FRENCH, HARDYSTON twp. Sussex NJ

Wish I knew.. We have Henery & Moses nearby on the Sussex tax record and I've found a James in Bucks County PA., and this-

My thinking is that Richard French, counterfeiter of Essex County in 1748 is either Richard's father or Grandfather.

Richard at Oldwick (New Germantown) is a likely candidate.

A Richard Married Marcy North in 1766; Richard b. 1775 could easily be hers.

Richand wife Easter (probably CROWELL)  name his first child Selletie which leads me to Seletje at Oldwick, who with Richard has William and Ann in 1782 & 3. (Easter Crowell b. 31 dec. 1775, Morristown. appears to have lived at Wantage)

The other French's in Sussex COULD be his brothers, cousins or uncles. Moses is very closely related but not Richard's father.

 Selletje?

I have run seletje's thru Google and Familysearch.org till I am relatively knowlegable of All the known Selletjes from 1650 to 1800 in NY & NJ. There are 2 that stand out as real possibilites.

Seletje Oosterhout m. Joannes Mollen II

but I cannot find anything on him after the marriage.

 Then - Seletje Snyder...

Seletje Snyder-[1302]  b. (1753-)  kingston - Ulster NY. Seletje Or Celia SNYDER was christened on 27 Mar 1753 in Kingston, Ulster, NY. She died on 24 May 1827. No known info on marriages.Easily could be the lady..I think she is the step mother of Richard French b. 1775

The Van Auken Line has been on our shores for many years- probably since the 1680-90 years.. The Van Aukens settled in Walpack by 1784. While I have not found proof this is the Elizabeth who married Richard, I believe it plausible. Further, as all her brothers were b. in Walpack, I think it reasonable to believe that Elizabeth was Walpack born and bred.

Their line is:
